A teenager in search of free chicken nuggets has been knocked off the top of the ranking for the most-retweeted post of all time — Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa, has taken first position.

Move over chicken-nugget tweet, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has taken over the top spot with the most retweeted tweet ever. Maezawa's January 5 tweet had more than 5.6 million retweets at time of writing.

The CEO of the online fashion retail website Zozotown, who in his tweet offered one million Japanese Yen (around €8,000) in cash to 100 people who retweeted him, has dethroned Carter Wilkinson's 2017 tweet asking for chicken nuggets.

The tweet celebrated the fact that the fashion company reached 10 billion Yen (more than €80 million) in sales over the holiday season.

"Zozotown's New Years sales, which reached a value of 10 billion Yen (more than €80 million) in the fastest time in history. 'To thank you I will offer one million Yen (around €8,000) in cash to 100 people. To participate please follow me and retweet this tweet. You have until January 7. I will send a personal message to winners.'

Maezawa attracted media attention last year after he was named first private customer to travel around the moon by SpaceX, the company owned by Elon Musk.

Number two

Wilkinson's tweet, which asked fast-food chain Wendy's how many retweets he needed to secure a year's supply of chicken nuggets, is now at the number two spot with more than three million retweets at time of writing.

In the player above, you can watch a video of the ten most retweeted posts of all time, according to Statista.

It includes the most retweeted Twitter posts as of November 2018, which also included Ellen DeGeneres Oscar selfie, Ariana Grande's tweet after the Manchester Arena bombings and a post from Barack Obama.
