CCTV footage of a man seemingly abandoning a dog at the roadside has sparked outrage in the UK.

The video, shared by animal welfare charity RSPCA, shows him getting out of a car with a dog that looks like a Staffordshire bull terrier.

He then throws the canine's bed onto the pavement, unclips the dog and drives away as the animal chases after the car.

The RSPCA circulated the video in the hope of finding information about the man, who was caught on camera in Stoke-on-Trent, central England, on December 17.

A passerby found the abandoned animal sat in its bed and took him to a local vet, who called the RSPCA, according to the charity.

The Staffordshire branch of the organisation posted on Facebook on December 24 saying the animal was being "well cared for" and appealing for information about the incident.

The RSPCA predicts will be dumped this winter.

The RSPCA said Snoop was just one of an expected 10,000 animals that will be dumped this winter.
