The Chinese activity of splashing water onto extremely cold ice

The unique activity of splashing water into ice amid extreme low temperatures was staged in different areas in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Saturday to celebrate Winter Solstice.

Dongzhi, or Winter Solstice, is one of the 24 solar terms marking the 24 divisions of the solar year in the traditional Chinese calendar. If Winter Solstice comes, the coldest period of the year is around the corner.
