For two years the Bosnian town of Velika Kladuša has been a bottleneck for migrants trying to get into the EU. Known in Bosnia as the “Rebel City”, it’s an area where locals throughout history have left for a better life elsewhere. Some even as refugees during the Balkan wars in the 1990’s.

One Bosnian war veteran has turned his café into a makeshift soup kitchen for those in need. Originally paying for the food out of his own pocket, Asim Latić says he now occasionally receives donations from NGOs.
