EDINBURGH (Reuters) – Scotland’s government said on Thursday that it will increase income tax rates for higher earners to help relieve strain on the public finances and fund a pay rise for those in the public sector.

The budget set out by finance minister Derek Mackay on Thursday offered public sector workers earnings less than 30,000 pounds ($40,242) a year a 3 percent pay rise, and those earning more than that a 2 percent pay rise.
