Madrid’s World Gay Pride entered its second of day of celebration on Thursday with the annual high heel race.

Clip-clopping in front of packed streets competitors tottered along the cobbled stoned streets of Chueca, Madrid’s LGBT capital.

This year’s winner was Ruben Alvarez from Madrid who came first in both rounds.

However, the main objective of the high heel race is to enjoy the variety and diversity that Gay Pride claims to promote.

With over 2 million people expected to take part in World Gay Pride in Madrid, traffic has been banned from the city centre and police have been carrying out exhaustive checks on bags.

Pride ends on Saturday with its main event – a love parade through the centre of Madrid.
