French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated his party’s landslide victory in France’s National Assembly elections in style on Monday, flying into the Paris Air Show in an Airbus A400M military transporter.

The newly-elected leader met with US politicians, including Secretary of State for Transportation, Elaine Chao, and French astronaut Thomas Pesquet at the biennial event where he was presented with a framed picture of the Wright brothers’ flight around the Eiffel Tower in 1909.

Macron also watched demonstration flights by fighter jets and helicopters with French Defence Minister, Sylvie Goulard, and Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the official opening of the show.

The 52nd edition of the event makes it the world’s oldest air show, having begun in 1909.
