A cultural must when visiting the French capital – the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain is about to kick off with 180 galleries from 27 countries. The largest event of its kind in France, the FIAC runs at the Grand Palais in Paris, from October 20 to 23.

‘Beyond Caravaggio’ is the first major exhibition in the UK to explore the Italian master’s work and its lasting impact on the rest of Europe. Described as a powerful exhibition about the artist and his followers that shows a man who could share his genius, it runs at the National Gallery in London until mid-January.

The Canal Foundation in Madrid presents a selection of 110 photographs by Robert Doisneau, one of the most emblematic photographers of the 20th century, famous for immortalising everyday life in the French capital. ‘Robert Doisneau: La belleza de lo cotidiano’ runs until January 8 in the Spanish capital.

And the Austrian capital is gearing up for the Vienna International Film Festival. One of the oldest and best-known festivals in the German-speaking world, it features a programme of some 300 films, with a particular focus on politically-engaged documentaries and short films. Runs from October 20 until November 2.
