Japan-inspired "Flower Carpet"

Six hundred thousand giant begonia flowers were laid out on the historical Grand Place in the centre of Brussels. The theme for the 2016 carpet draws its inspiration from Japanese representations of flowers, birds, the wind and the moon to depict the beauty of nature.

The construction of the flower carpet has become a tradition in Brussels and is done every two years.

This year it celebrates 150 years of Japanese-Belgian friendship.
