A massive explosion at a fireworks factory in northeast Spain has killed five people and injured six others. One person has been reported missing.

The blast happened in the Pirotecnia Zaragozana company in the Zaragoza area.

Of those injured police have said three are in a serious condition.

It’s not known what caused the blast and the small fires which broke out have hindered any investigation.

There have been explosions at the same company on two previous occasions, with several deaths reported.

Spain’s El Pais newspaper says accidents at firework factories around the country in the last 25 years have claimed more than 110 lives.
