Heatwave fuels forest fires in Portugal

Northern and central parts of Portugal suffer forest fires. Many homes were threatened. The wildfires are now under control. Nearly 80 percent of the country’s territory is considered to be in a severe drought, a situation that is likely to get worse in August, according to the Portuguese meteorological agency IPMA. Over the past 10 days wildfires have destroyed more than 9.000 hectares of forest.
