Industry-disrupting Uber is to take its ride-hailing technology into China with an 890 million euro investment in the world’s number two economy.

Uber boss Travis Kalanick says his drivers are already completing a million trips a day in 11 cities in a market he says is the company’s “number one priority”.

He added the 35.6 billion-euro firm plans to launch its services in 50 more Chinese cities over the next year, and that he faced fierce competition from the existing local players.

Elsewhere Uber has been suffering raids on its offices and crackdowns over alleged illegal operations.
