A new report suggests investor confidence in Germany has unexpectedly dropped for the first time in six months.

The Mannheim-based ZEW Center for European Economic Research says its index of investor and analyst expectations fell to 53.3 in April from 54.8 in March.

The index aims to predict economic developments six months in advance and is being widely interpreted as a sign that uncertainty surrounding Greece’s debt crisis may be weighing heavily on Europe’s largest economy.
