Global growth is not enough, according to the head of the International Monetary Fund.
Speaking at a meeting of the world’s top economic policymakers in Washington, Christine Lagarde made clear she is not happy with the way things are.
“The good news is that global recovery continues. The not-so-good news is that growth remains moderate and uneven. And overall, we believe that growth is simply not good enough. Not good enough to reduce high unemployment, still. Not good enough to boost middle-class incomes, not good enough to drive poverty reduction,” said the IMF’s managing director.
Lagarde also repeated her warning that low and middle-income countries face financial turbulence as the US central bank tightens its monetary policy.
