Pop violinist and Olympic skier Vanessa-Mae has been banned by the International Ski federation for four years.

The sports governing body handed down the punishment after it was revealed that her Olympic qualification results had been manipulated so that she could compete in Sochi.

The 36-year-old British citizen, competed for her native Thailand as Vanessa Vanakorn.

She qualified for the 2014 Olympics just days before the deadline after competing in giant slalom races in Slovenia that had been organised by her management team.

An FIS investigation found several irregularities in the results of the four qualifying races.

Results that gave Mae enough FIS ranking points to participate at the Games.

Mae went on to finish last out of the 67 competitors in Sochi.
