A prison rooftop protest in Brazil is into its third day.

Masked, rioting inmates demanding better conditions have been dishing out some brutal treatment to police guards and other prisoners they are holding hostage.

In full view of the captives’ relatives, the abuse was designed to be provocative.

At least six men were injured when they were thrown from the roof.

The rioters, armed with knives and clubs, were also seen beating their victims.

Since one hostage was released on Tuesday, negotiations have resumed and a few more have been freed – including one suffering from burns.

The authorities say about 30 inmates are leading the uprising.

The revolt at the Guarapuava jail is one of several to have occurred in the southern state of Paraná in the last year.
