Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is set to move from Red Bull to Ferrari next season after advising his current team he would be leaving.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed it is expected the 27-year-old German will replace Fernando Alonso at the Italian glamour team.
Alonso’s future remains unclear with reports suggesting he will move to McLaren to replace out-of-sorts Jenson Button.
Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner said Ferrari had made Vettel “a very attractive offer.”
Vettel who has been outshone by teammate Daniel Ricciardo this term, will be replaced by Russian Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat.
The news provides an interesting sub plot to this weekend’s Japan Grand Prix where Nico Rosberg will start from pole ahead of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Alonso will start fifth while Vettel qualified ninth.
