New Chelsea signing Loic Remy scored with 16 minutes remaining to hand France a one nil win over Spain in a friendly tie at the Stade de France in Paris.
Spain – who won three major tournaments in a row from 2008 but had a disastrous 2014 World Cup campaign – lacked creativity and failed to have a shot on target all night.
They were punished for it on the 74th minute when Remy hit the back of the net capping off a fine collective move to hand Didier Deschamps’ men a deserved victory on home soil.
Elsewhere Italy beat a woeful and ten-man Netherlands side 2-0 in Bari.
Ciro Immobile and Daniele De Rossi both scored within the first ten minutes while there were also wins on the night for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden, Slovakia, Croatia and Belgium.
