Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff handed over the reigns to the next World Cup to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday.

The ceremony took place inside the iconic Maracana Stadium before the showpiece match with FIFA President Sepp Blatter presenting a signed certificate to mark the handover, while the two presidents were given official match balls.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil has been seen by many as a success, despite continuous protests against Rousseff and Blatter throughout the tournament.

The preliminary draw will take place in Saint Petersburg on the 24th of July 2015.
