South Korean troops have located a renegade soldier who shot five dead colleagues.
The sergeant opened fire on members of his 22 nd infantry at a remote border post in the demilitarised zone which separates South and North Korea and then escaped.
Captain Noh Jae-Chun, involved in the manhunt, made the following statement:: “ I can’t tell you about the number of men on the ground, but nine battalions are involved. “
The soldier, known only as Im, is currently holed up in school in the border town of Goseong and a standoff is ongoing.
Earlier the sergeant wounded another soldier as the army closed in on his hiding place.
Im’s parents are on the scene to help resolve the situation without further violence.
