Russia’s lower house of parliament, the Duma, held a minute’s silence on Wednesday to remember a journalist and sound engineer killed in a mortar attack by the Ukrainian army.
Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, who worked for Rossiya 24 TV channel, were filming refugees leaving Luhansk in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday when they came under fire.
Their cameraman, Victor Denisov, who survived said the attack was deliberate: “It wasn’t a casual shooting, it was a targeted action from the Ukranian national troops. Both the correspondent and the sound man had TV logos on them.”
The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations said an investigation would be launched into the deaths but added the men had come without proper accreditation and placed themselves “within a group of terrorists.”
