Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda have sent extra troops to their shared border. Tensions have been rising with each side accusing the other of mounting cross-border raids.
The Rwandan government admitted it had killed five soldiers from DRC on Wednesday after it said a group of them crossed the border into Rwanda and opened fire.
Behame Hassan, Mayor of Rubavu, Rwanda, explained: “These attacks are common with Congolese soldiers, they normally come and take our animals but this time they attacked the army. They fought for hours and the result of the fighting is what you see here with dead Congolese soldiers on the hills.”
