US President Barack Obama has been visiting areas of Arkansas torn apart by last week’s tornadoes.
The extreme weather flattened buildings and brought down power lines.
Obama promised the government would help residents with the massive recovery effort ahead of them.
“So the people of Vilonia and all the other towns devastated by the storm understand there’s a lot of work that remains to be done,” he said.
“But I’m here to remind them that they’re not doing this work alone. Your country is going to be here for you. We’re going to support you every step of the way.”
The tornadoes, which swept through the Southern and Midwestern United States killed at least 35 people, including 15 in Arkansas.
Obama declared a major disaster in the state last week and ordered in federal aid to boost state and local recovery efforts.
