A Spanish court is to investigate the transfer of Neymar from Santos to Barcelona following claims of misappropriation of funds.
The Brazilian star joined the Catalan club last June for what Barca said was a 57.1 million-euro deal – although the finer details of the transfer were not revealed.
However, when a disgruntled fan took legal action after his request for clarification on the transaction was ignored by the club, the courts decided there was sufficient grounds to investigate if there was any financial wrongdoing.
Local media report the deal for the player was more in the region of 95 million euros while state prosecutors are questioning 40 million euros that was paid as part of the overall fee and went to a company owned by Neymar’s father.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, who could be called to give evidence, denies the claims.
