Vladimir Petkovic will take over as coach of Switzerland’s national football team after the next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The 50-year-old Bosnian, whose nickname is ‘The Doctor’, currently coaches Serie A side Lazio.
The former coach of Young Boys Bern and five other Swiss teams, has reportedly been in negotiations with the Swiss Football Association for weeks.
On Monday Petkovic signed a contract that runs until the end of 2015 but will be extended if Switzerland qualify for Euro 2016 in France.
Petkovic will replace Ottmar Hitzfeld, who led Switzerland to a second successive World Cup with a stunning unbeaten qualifying campaign.
Hitzfeld, 64, will retire after the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer.
