Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson has a lot to celebrate as he lands the European Tour Player of the Year award.
He was rewarded for the spectacular leap he made in the world rankings; starting 2013 outside the top 50 and finishing the year as world number three.
This year Stenson has won the Tour Championship in Atlanta, as well as being victorious in the DP World Tour Championships in Dubai.
These are achievements he claims are down to his team as much as him.
“I’ve had to work hard on many different things,” said Stenson. “Like you said, it’s not just one thing that makes you turn around completely and so it’s been long-term hard work that’s been put in place. I’ve got a great team around me, they all helped out a lot and I owe them a lot as well and they deserve their mentioning in this achievement.”
He is the first Swedish player to win the award at the end of what he is calling a “stellar year.”
