Three people have been killed in a partial collapse at the stadium due to host the World Cup opener in Brazil next year.

According to reports, part of the stadium fell on a truck, containing three workers, at the Corinthians Arena, which will host the first game of the 2014 tournament on 12 June.

Television images showed a huge metal structure buckled atop the stadium, destroying part of the stands in the east side of the venue

The accident is the latest blow to construction work in Brazil, with organisers aiming to finish six of the 12 stadiums by December ahead of the World Cup. There have already been deaths during the construction of the main stadium in Brasilia while work at the Arena da Amazonia stadium in Manaus has been beset by tropical rain.
