Judo World Cup raises curtain on massive push for sport in China

Five weight categories were contested on the final day of the Judo Grand Prix as the womens’ 78kg and +78kg categories were in action along with the mens’ 90kg, 100kg and +100kg categories.

Hosts China finished top of the medal table with 12 in all, four of each in gold, silver and bronze. Russia were second with four gold, three silver and nine bronze and took the event’s starring role as they battled with Germany, third with three gold, two silver and six bronze medals.

An IJF delegation will remain in China to join officials from the Chinese Judo Association to embark on a pioneering ‘Judo Journey Through China’.

Jointly the two organisations want to explore the enormous potential of the sport in the country with a 10-day practical and educational tour across China. The 2014 Youth Olympic Games will be held here in Nanjing and the ‘Judo Journey’ will promote competitive judo along with the Chinese team and the Olympic sport of judo to as much of the country’s 1.3 billion population as possible.

Grand Prix de Qingdao

Fin ce dimanche du Grand Prix de Judo a Qingdao, en Chine, avec la victoire Jie Zhang chez les moins de 78 kilos.

La Chinoise s’est montrée intraitable en final face a la numéro 16 mondiale Anastasiya Dmitrieva et l’a finalement logiquement remporté grâce à un ko-uchi-gari parfaitement éxécuté.

Chez les hommes, Lei Zhang a dominé la catégorie des plus de 100 kilos avec une belle victoire en finale face au Brésilien Gabriel Santos.

Le Chinois, qui était facilement venu à bout du Koréen Gi Geun Bae en demi-finale a gagné par ippon tandis que son compatriote Jian Liu a du se contenter de la médaille de bronze.

Les organisateurs terminent donc la compétition avec un total de 4 médailles d’or, 4 d’argent et 4 de bronze et devancent ainsi la Russie et l’Allemgne au classement général.
