Prosecutors in the Oscar Pistorius case have been allowed by South Africa’s National Director of Public Prosecutions to add two firearm charges to the indictment against the double-amputee athlete.
Pistorius, who is already accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and illegal possession of ammunition, will now have to face additional charges relating to “the contravention of the firearm controls act.’‘
Spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority Nathi Mncube said: “The charges were already there. It’s not new charges as it has been reported. It’s charges that were already there, that otherwise would have been heard in a different court, in a different jurisdiction,.’‘
According to local media the charges, which were not included in his original indictment in August, related to Pistorius firing his gun in public on two occasions in Johannesburg.
