Fernando Torres celebrated his 100th start for Chelsea by scoring twice while Edin Hazard added a late goal as the Londoners beat Schalke 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen in the third round of matches in the Champions League group stage.

The Blues go top of Group E on goal difference ahead of their German rivals, Basel are third following their one all draw with Steaua Buchaesti.

Borussia Dortmund balanced out the Germany v England battle on the night when last season’s runners up beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.
