A day after Azerbaijan’s election resulted in a landslide victory for President Ilham Aliyev, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has spoken out about how the vote was handled.

Tana de Zulueta, the head of the OSCE observer mission to Azerbaijan, addressed a press conference in Baku.

“Our observers received allegations of intimidation, witnessed even physical attacks on journalists in the lead up to an election day, which we found seriously flawed.” Zulueta said.

Michel Voisin, a Special Coordinator for the OSCE mission said: “The October 9 election was undermined by limitations on freedoms of expression, assembly and association. It did not guarantee a level playing field for candidates.”
