Despite the State of Emergency being extended in Egypt by another two months, several thousand Muslim Brotherhood protesters gathered after Friday prayers in Cairo, demanding the return of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.

Across the city, the army blocked off many main streets

In Alexandria, there were clashes between pro Morsi protesters and residents of the Sidi Gaber neighbourhood who support the military.

As protesters were marching through the area, residents came out to stop them. The clashes were broken up by the army and police.

The Muslim Brotherhood had called on their supporters to take part in Friday protests around the country.
