Verizon agreed to pay 130 billion dollars to buy Vodafone’s stake in their joint venture Verizon-wireless, the most profitable mobile phone carrier in the US. Verizon has been eager to take full control of the wireless unit for many years, though the British group did not want to lose its best earner.

Less expensive, but no less significant is Microsoft plan to buy Nokia’s handset unit. Microsoft’s CEO called it a win-win deal for everybody. The IT giant believes the purchase will give it a significant boost. As for Nokia, it could be its last chance to survive.

And we report on the much anticipated new offering from Samsung – the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, as it tries to spark a revolution in wearable devices.
