After weeks of speculation, Fenerbahce have been excluded from the Europa League and barred from qualifying for next season’s Champions League after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the club’s punishment for their involvement in match fixing on Wednesday.

Fenerbahce, along with fellow Istanbul giants Besiktas, were originally banned for their role in a massive match-fixing scandal in Turkey two years ago which saw club President Aziz Yildirim sentenced to six years in prison.

Besiktas also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and its ruling is expected on August 30.
