Bassist Jared Hasselhoff from the American rock group Bloodhound Gang, known for its on-stage antics, could face criminal charges in Russia.

He put the country’s flag in his underpants during a gig that took place in the Ukrainian city of Odessa.

He shouted, “Don’t tell Putin” to the applause of the audience. Russia barred the band from a music festival and has also started legal proceedings.

Andrey Pilipchuk, Interior Ministry spokesman explained the move. “The legal proceedings have been started due to the outrage over the Russian Federation state flag. The maximum penalty for this action could be up to one year in a prison,” he said.

The incident happened against the background of strained relations between Russia and the US. The group could also face charges in Ukraine. An unverified video reportedly showed Hasselhoff urinating on the country’s flag in a separate gig.
