The third edition of the Audi Cup kicks off on Wednesday.
The two-day pre season tournament features four teams – English Premier League side Manchester City, Brazilian club Sao Paolo, Italy’s AC Milan and hosts Bayern Munich.
The event at the Allianz Arena offers the ideal chance for the teams to fine-tune their competitive engines ahead of the new season.
City coach Manuel Pelligrini said: “I think that we can improve ourselves here and every single one will be able to develop themselves in their own way. We will see what happens here and go about it in a calm way. We will try to get the best out of the team.”
AC Milan have featured in all three editions and coach Massimiliano Allegri is once again looking forward to pitting his men against strong opposition ahead of the new campaign.
He said: “It is an important date in our preparation. We have now played against Valencia in our first preparation game and played a good game. Before we start the qualification round for the Champions League it is of course a good thing to play against Manchester City or Bayern or Sao Paulo.”
At the pre-tournament press conference Bayern’s new coach Pep Guardiola took the opportunity to quash rumours that last season’s treble winners were hoping to poach Chelsea defender David Luiz.
Guardiola said: “It is an English story. It’s not true. David Luiz will not come to Munich, I have four or five defenders. I am very happy with them so I don’t have anything to say because it is not true.”
The tournament kicks off directly with the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Manchester City take on AC Milan in the opener while Bayern and Sao Paolo lock horns immediately afterwards.
The final is on Thursday.
