Former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain was mobbed by fans as he arrived at Rome Airport on Wednesday ahead of passing a medical and signing with his new club Napoli.

After six seasons with Real Madrid the 25-year-old is moving to the Stadio San Paolo for a reported €40m on a five-year contract.

At Napoli Higuain will join up with fellow new recruits and former Real teammates José Callejón and Raul Albiol.

Napoli came second behind league winners Juventus last season to book their spot in the Champions League this term.

And they have been busy in the transfer market in preparation for their domestic and European assault.

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina also arrived in Italy on Wednesday and will reunite with his former Anfield manager Rafael Benítez at Napoli on a season-long loan deal.

Both Reina and Higuain are expected to be presented to the fans on Monday.
