The Vatican’s sainthood committee has recognised Pope Jean Paul II’s second miracle, only eight years after his death.

The healing of a woman from a brain injury has sealed his place in Vatican history as one of 78 former popes to be canonised.

Pope Francis must now sign the bill, before a sainthood ceremony expected by the end of the year.
