10 people including nine foreign tourists have been killed by gunmen in the remote region of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan. The visitors were from China, Russia and Ukraine.
The Pakistani Taliban is one of two groups to claim responsibility for the attack at the base camp of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth highest mountain. The bodies of the victims have been taken to Islamabad where they will be flown back to their home countries.
Despite these assaults the area has been a relatively secure part of the country.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack.
