A bank employee who fell asleep for a moment on the number 2 key of his computer has turned a transfer of 62 euros into one for 222 million euros.

However, it was the man’s colleague who bore the brunt of the repercussions as he was fired for not having spotted the mistake.

He challenged his dismissal in court and it was ruled to have been unfair on Monday.

The complainant, aged 48, had been employed by the bank for over 20 years and was responsible for checking transfer orders, a popular method of payment in Germany.

While the 222 million euro mistake slipped past him, the bank discovered the error.

The court ordered the reinstatement of the dismissed employee.
