LA Lakers owner Jerry Buss dies

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss has died aged 80.

Buss had been hospitalized much of the past 18 months as he battled with cancer and on Monday he passed away due to kidney failure.

He bought the Lakers back in 1979 and turned them into one of the most successful and most valuable professional basketball teams.

Under his ownership the Lakers won 10 NBA championships and have boasted some of the sport’s marquee players and coaches including Phil Jackson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

In 2010 Buss was inducted into the basketball hall of fame.
