The United States and the European Union will begin free-trade talks this summer as the major economic powers start the long process to reduce trading barriers.

In the meantime, US companies struggle to overcome the challenges that come with the crisis in Europe. Tyre-maker Goodyear’s plans to close its factory in the North of France led to protests, while Peugeot-Citroen’s says it has to slash its workforce as the it posted record losses last year.
