In one of the worst accidents in Scottish mountaineering history four people, two men and two women, have died in an avalanche. The party of six climbers was caught while coming down from Glencoe. A third woman is critically ill in hospital after being dug out from the snow. The sixth climber escaped injury and contacted the rescuie services, but they were too late to save the four.

The group were experienced winter walkers, and an accident of this magnitude is extremely rare in Britian.
