The Hillsborough tribute single, a cover of The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy by the Justice Collective, was the British Christmas Number One.

The song was the most popular in the UK soon after a new investigation into the 1989 disaster in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives was ordered and the original ‘accidental death’ verdicts were also overturned.

In September the Hillsborough Independent Panel said a ‘failure in police control’ was to blame for the disaster and found police and emergency services had made ‘strenuous attempts’ to deflect the blame for the disaster on to the fans.

The recording is by the Justice Collective, which includes Sir Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Mel C, Holly Johnson and many more.

All proceeds are going to the victims’ families.
