Vivendi’s SFR telecoms unit has announced a voluntary redundancy plan to shed 856 jobs.

Unions are due to meet management in early December to discuss terms.

The layoffs will cover all divisions except customer services.

French media report that the layoff plan will offer 2 and a half years of salary for those who have been with the company for a decade.

SFR say in all 1,123 jobs are set to go, but 267 new positions will be created in the areas of online sales and web managers.
