Hundreds of dairy farmers from all over Europe are in Brussels to protest against low milk prices.

The two day demonstration is aimed at pushing the European Parliament to introduce what organisers call “effective regulations” for the milk market.

“We want a fair milk price which will cover our costs,” said Sepp Mayer, a dairy farmer from Bavaria. “We want a price which allows us to maintain our farms so we can produce healthy provisions,” he added.

The European Milk Board claims thousands of dairy farmers have been forced out of business since 2009 and more risks joining them if agriculture policy remains unchanged.
