The UK government has blocked the extradition of a British computer hacker to the United States to face charges of breaking into American military computers.

Gary McKinnon, who has a form of autism, admitted accessing 97 computers, saying he was looking for evidence of UFOs.

The government said there was a high risk he would kill himself should he be sent to the US for trial, where he faced a possible jail term of 60 years.

One prosecutor called it “the biggest military computer hack of all time.”
