US removes Iran dissident group from terror list

The US State Department has formally removed the Iranian dissident group MEK – or People’s Mujahideen Organisation of Iran – from its terrorism blacklist.

Leader Maryam Rajavi welcomed the decision – condemned by Tehran – which follows similar moves by Britain and the EU in recent years.

The MEK opposed both the Shah and revolutionary clerics but has long said it has renounced violence.
