Syrian troops have clashed with rebels in the city of Aleppo for a second day, forcing hundreds of families to flee.
Bursts of shelling and gunfire were reported in at least two neighbourhoods.
Syria’s second city has been described by one resident as a “battle zone.”
Government forces have also been striking back in Damascus, after rebels mounted a six-day offensive in the capital and assassinated four members of President Bashar al-Assad’s inner circle of power.
Syrian state TV broadcast pictures, which were said to show a group of “armed terrorists,” who had been rounded up and arrested in the Midan district.
Footage of weapons and ammunition was also aired.
Meanwhile, as the violence continues, it is claimed Assad’s forces are now readying chemical arms for possible use against the rebels.
