Soyuz rocket launches for next mission in space

A Russian Soyuz spaceship has lifted off for the International Space Station from a launch pad in Baikonur, Kazakhstan.

The rocket is carrying three veteran cosmonauts from Russia, Japan and the US.

The spaceship is due to berth early on Tuesday with the 80 billion euro ISS research facility that orbits 385 kilometres above earth.

Suni Williams, Aki Hoshide and Yuri Malenchenko will stay in space for four months.
